Mark Anderson
"We live in a world of accelerating change. More importantly, the nature of change is changing; predictable, incremental change has given way to the unpredictable. This fact underlies everything we do in the arts and cultural community, yet too often without our thinking about it."

My work focuses on assessing the organizational capacities of nonprofit organizations; research about philanthropy and arts communities; designing and evaluating grant-making programs; and, benchmarking to identify best management practices in philanthropy and nonprofit management. Increasingly, I am focused on information technology-related projects.

My interests include the culture of innovative organizations, the impact of globalization on nonprofit cultural organizations, and the implications of increasing transparency for the NGO sector.

Some recent and current projects are:

• Perpetuity: New Strategies for Preserving Collections,
  an investigation of a new platform to preserve collections of material culture which fall outside the infrastructure of museums, libraries and archives.

• Technology Adoption Among Arts Organizations,
  a look at of the nature of technology adoption and use by arts and cultural organizations in Los Angeles County.
